12 Nights / 13 Days

This itinerary highlights the best Uganda has to offer, including mountain gorilla trekking, chimpanzee tracking, tree climbing lions on safari and much more.

Day 1 - Arrival into Entebbe, Uganda and meet with your driver. One hour transfer to your hotel in Kampala. Optional activities in Kampala can be arranged for an additional cost.

Day 2 - Today you will travel to Murchison Falls National Park, roughly a four hour drive. Arrive at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary where you will meet with an experienced ranger for your safari hike and close encounters with rhinos. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and continue along the way to Murchison Falls N.P.  Overnight at Baker’s Lodge. (B, L, D)

Day 3 - Following breakfast, depart for you first game drive in Murchison Falls National Park. Safari by road. In the afternoon enjoy a safari by boat (private) in Murchison Falls N.P. Complete your day with a hike to the top of the waterfalls, you will love the views! Get your cameras ready for the spectacular site; where the gushing waters from the largest river in the world smashes through the Rift Valley escarpment down to a pool 43meters below. Return to Baker’s Lodger for dinner and overnight.  (B, L, D)

Day 4 - Early morning breakfast at Bakers Lodge. Depart for your delta boat safari to the area where Lake Albert and the Nile River meet. The swamps and grasslands are plentiful with African wildlife including elephants, hippos and many varieties of birds including the rare Shoebill Stork. This afternoon you can choose to relax at the lodge or go out on another game drive. Overnight Baker’s Lodge. (B, L, D)

Day 5 - The journey set for this day is long however is very scenic as you depart from Murchison Falls National Park with your picnic lunch, traveling towards Fort Portal. On the drive you will pass through rolling hills with tea plantations, Lush forests, villages  which give you the chance to see the cultural Uganda experience. Overnight at Papaya Lake Lodge in the Great Crater Lakes Region. (B, L, D)

Day 6 -  Today you will experience the Chimpanzee in their natural environment. Just a one hour drive to Kibale Forest National Park. There are approximately 5,000 chimps left in the wild and this is one of the best places to track with the Chimpanzees. The next activity for the day takes you to the Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary where you will go on a Swamp walk which takes about 2 - 3 hours. Optional Chimpanzee habituation day can be booked in replace of these two activities. During the habituation day you will spend an entire day with the chimpanzees. Overnight at Papaya Lake Lodge. Day 7 - Following breakfast, depart for  Queen Elizabeth National Park, Ugandas second largest park. Game drive on the way to your lodge, Mweya Safari Lodge, a luxury tented safari lodge overlooking the Kazinga Channel. You will fall asleep to the sounds of lions roaring in the distance! Lunch at the lodge followed by a private boat safari along the Kazinga Channel. You can expect to see; hippos, buffalo, crocodile and a variety of other African wildlife and spectacular birds. Game drive back to Mweya Safari lodge for dinner and overnight. (B, L, D)

Day 8 -  Early morning safari to see the beautiful sunrise as you search for wildlife.  After breakfast proceed to the southern part of Queen Elizabeth N.P to the area called Ishasha. Overnight at Ishasha Wilderness Camp, overlooking the river full of hippos.  Game drive in the after noon or book optional excursions.Dinner and overnight at the camp.(B, L, D)

Day 9 - Today the day will be spent on game drives in Ishasha, on the look out for the tree climbing lions. Overnight Ishasha Wilderness Camp. (B, L, D)

Day 10 - Game drive as you exit the park for your last chance to spot the lions in the trees. Just a three hour scenic drive until you arrive at Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home of the Mountain Gorillas. Lunch dinner and overnight at Buhoma Lodge. (B, L, D)

Day 11 - Today is the BIG DAY and the highlight of your tour in Uganda. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is home to both Mountain Gorillas and Chimpanzees - the only forest in Africa with this claim. It is also home to over 100 species of mammals, five other species of primate, over 360 birds and 200 butterflies. Time taken to trek the Gorillas can be up to 7 hours. Once they have been located you will have maximum one hour with them. This is a most humbling experience, to come face-to-face with the mountain gorillas. Return for dinner and overnight at Buhoma Lodge. (B, L, D)

Day 12 - Another early morning to being your journey Lake Mburo National Park for game drive on your way to Mihingo Lodge where you will relax in comfort surrounded by the beauty of nature. Swim in the infinity pool or watch wildlife at the waterhole from your private verandah as you journal about your experience with the gorillas. Lunch, dinner and overnight at Mihingo Lodge. Day 13 - Sadly, today is your last day on safari with Matoke Tours. Morning activity you have the choice of a Bush walk in Lake Mburo N.P., a horse riding safari in the park or a mountain bike safari, before you head back to Kampala or Entebbe for you onward travel or flight home.  Make one last stop, to visit to the equator along the way, a great place for shopping!
