Rwanda hosts the best security in the region as well provides easy access routes to visit the Gorillas!

Rwanda danceRwanda is known as the “land of a thousand hills” and is one of the top locations to experience the Mountain Gorillas in their natural habitat.  With only about 800 mountain gorillas left in their natural environment this is a rare encounter with a very special species.

The ease of getting to Volcanoes National Park from the capital city, Kigali, combined with the fact that more than half of the worlds population of Mountain Gorillas reside in Volcanoes National Park denotes Rwanda an excellent choice for your gorilla trekking safari.

The Virunga Lodge offers tranquil luxury and spectacular views, some of the best in Rwanda, I highly recommend Virunga Lodge. Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge and Mountain Gorilla View Lodge are also some of my top recommendations for accommodations while visiting Volcanoes National Park.

Kigali is a vibrant city and an excellent starting or ending point on your Rwanda or multi-country travel itinerary. A visit to the Genocide Museum really puts things into perspective, to see how far the people of Rwanda have come since the horrible tragedies they experienced during the 1994 genocide. It is an eye-opening experience and taught me a lot about forgiveness.

Depending on your arrival or departure time you can visit some of Kigali's markets where you find authentic African carvings, paintings, sculptures, fabrics and much more. Overnight at the famous Hotel des Milles Collines, from the movie Hotel Rwanda, a hotel known for its high level of service in the center of town.
