Dine in the wild with five star menus at lodges and camps known for their high level of standards of service and quality. While on safari there is a wide variety of styles and levels of comfort, these types of accommodations can be found inside and outside of the national parks and reserves.

Your comfort is the main goal when helping you design your itinerary. It is most important to match you with the type of accommodation that suits your needs and your budget. The type of lodging included on a tour of East Africa will have a major impact on the type of experience you will have. By listening to your needs I am able to guide you to the best types of accommodation for your holiday.

Watch elephants from your tent as they pass by on their search for food.  Wake to views of Mt. Kilimanjaro or situate yourself on the edge of the largest crater in the world, with the “Big 5” roaming below.  Sleep with the fish in The Manta Resorts’s spectacular underwater room and snorkel the waters of the inviting Indian Ocean a few steps from your room.

For those looking for a close connection with nature and the true “bush” experience, a tented safari camp is recommended. When first time safari planners often think of the word “tent” they think of camping at your local campground with a pop up tent, however, that is not the case in East Africa. Tented Safari Camps are equipped with large canvas tents designed with en-suite washrooms with flush toilet and shower. Large king size beds, double beds and a configuration of twin beds can be accommodated for those looking to book a tented camp. Family tents can also be booked. Many of the tented safari camps operate on solar power which provides electricity and hot water. A restaurant and dining/lounge tent is typically located a short walking distance from the sleeping tent.

There are two types of tented camps: mobile and permanent.

  • Mobile tented camps are located in special and private campsites. They are popular in the Serengeti National park as they are designed to follow the “Great Migration”. Most luxury mobile tented camps have large walk in tents with en-suite bathrooms, private shaded verandas. Separate tents are set up for the restaurant and bar/lounging areas.  Mobile camps are typically an intimate setting with 6 - 12 tents. Experience the authentic African bush life by booking a mobile tented camp. Mobile camps can be basic to very luxurious.

Permanent tented camps are similar to lodges in the way that they are able to cater to your needs by being a permanent camp. They are able to offer similar amenities of that of a lodge such as swimming pools and larger restaurant and bar areas. Many permanent camps build their tents off of the ground on concrete slabs or on stilts, which creates a more luxurious experience. There are many luxury camps available in Tanzania and Kenya which can cost more than the lodges. Permanent tented camps offer personalized, luxury service and are often located in areas with exceptional views and opportunity for wildlife viewing.

4seasonsLodges on Safari

Safari Lodges have solid wall structures typically made from stone, brick or local materials. In and around East Africa lodges will offer the same services and amenities you experience at a hotel. You will regularly find lodges that have guest rooms contained in one main building, or chalets/huts short distances from the restaurants and bars, gift shop, pool and common areas.

Choices range from simple budget lodges, moderate bungalows to luxury lodges and high-end exuberant suites with private infinity pools.

Camping safaris are the most budget conscious option for safari. Not to be confused with the tented camp experience. Accommodation is normally at public campsites in canvas or pop-up tents and has very limited services. Shared washroom facilities are available at the public campsites. Sleeping is typically on the ground with mattress and sleeping bag. Cots or  beds can be included in the cost in certain locations. While camping you will have meals prepared by your own cook.
